The city of New Delhi seems to be frozen in time against any major structural metamorphosis but is still rich with many layers of interventions old and new; state led and also community driven. Join us as we explore the heart of Delhi to understand the temporal and social significance of architecture in its local and global setting.
What to expect: Starting at perhaps the only skyscraper street in Delhi, we walk through some spectacular interventions of medieval rulers from the 14th and the 18th centuries, walk past epitomes of colonialism from the 19th century as well as architecture of an aspiring modernist state from the post independence era. We explore a stepped well in the middle of the modern town, peek into colonial life and times as we talk about the bungalows, and a quirky historical observatory that is just as brilliantly sculptural as it is functional.
Ideal for: Architecture and design enthusiasts, avid walkers, old and young alike.
